Dispelling the Myths of Bipolar Disorder

Presented by Erie County Anti-Stigma Coalition

There are many misconceptions about bipolar disorder. Some people believe that the disorder is not very common or it is simply a series of mood swings.

Bipolar disorder features cycles or episodes that last from weeks to months, unlike mood swings that pass rather quickly. Bipolar disorder often worsens without treatment, so it’s essential to learn about symptoms to reduce stigma and encourage people to seek help.

A Conversation About Anxiety

Presented by Erie County Anti-Stigma Coalition

Everyone experiences anxiety, but when is professional help needed? According to the National Institute of Mental Health, about 19% of adults in the U.S. have experienced anxiety in the past year, yet many people don’t seek treatment because of feelings of embarrassment, shame, weakness, a lack of understanding or belief they should be able to “snap out of it.”

If you need to talk, the 988 Lifeline is here.

At the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, they understand that life's challenges can sometimes be difficult. Whether you're facing mental health struggles, emotional distress, alcohol or drug use concerns, or just need someone to talk to, their caring counselors are here for you. You are not alone.

The 988 Lifeline is available 24/7/365. Your conversations are free and confidential.
